What does Milaap do with the funds if a patient dies?

It is very unfortunate when a patient, for whom funds were being raised, passes away. At Milaap, we follow the following protocol when it comes to withdrawal of funds in the scenario that the patient passes away.

What happens to the funds raised when the patient passes away before the treatment could begin and no funds were transferred yet?
  • Donors are first notified about the patient's demise and that no funds were transferred yet.
  • Upon confirmation from the patient’s family and hospital, that there are no pending bills, donors will be notified of the funds available which they may re-route to another patient or seek a refund.
  • In case of a refund, they’ll be issued the same. The same process holds in case they want their donation to go to the original patient’s family/next-of-kin
